The Door County Sheriff’s Department is sponsoring a medication collection day Sept. 26 from 9 am – noon. Turn in old human prescription meds, over-the-counter meds, liquids, creams and pills at the Sister Bay/ Liberty Grove Fire Station at 2258 Mill Road or at the Door County Justice Center, 1201 S. Duluth Ave., Sturgeon Bay.

The collection helps keep old meds out of the hands of children and pets, groundwater, and even can prevent identity theft from pills left in the garbage.

Medications should be left in their original container with the medication name and dosage showing. Name and address information may be blacked out. Call the sheriff’s department at 920.746.2428 for more information.

The Village and Town of Egg Harbor will host a Fire Department Meet and Greet on Sunday, Sept. 20 from 5 – 6:30 pm at the Bertschinger Community Center. Meet new fire chief Steve Schopf and other members of the joint town and village volunteer fire department.

Several recently purchased multi-purpose fire trucks will be on display. Seasonal homeowners will have the opportunity to provide their contact information to the fire department, or discuss the need for Knox boxes on unoccupied homes. Apple pie and ice cream will be served.

Speeding concerns and possible approval of the Door County Comprehensive Plan 2030 are on the Jacksonport Town Board agenda for Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7pm at the town hall.

The Sister Bay Plan Commission meeting originally scheduled for Sept. 17 has been rescheduled for Sept 24 at 5:30 pm at the Sister Bay/ Liberty Grove Fire Station.

Corn Silage whole-Plant Moisture Testing will be held in Algoma at the Rio Creek Feed Mill, N7295 Feed Mill Lane, Sept. 21, and in Sturgeon Bay at the Olson-ARE Farm, 580 Cty S, on Sept. 28. Both sessions run form 9 am – noon. A limit of two samples per farm will be tested free of charge. Four to five stalks cut at normal chopping height should be gathered, bundled and tagged with contact information. Planting date and hybrid must be included. Nitrate testing is also available for $7 per sample.
