September is Busy Month at DCAL Gallery

September is an action-packed month at The Gallery of the Door County Art League (DCAL). There’s the 30th Anniversary Showcase, Taste of the Top at the Top of the Hill Shops, demonstrations and sales.

Kicking off the month as artists of the week are Mary Collette and Barbara Timmerman. Mitch Heinrichs, DCAL vice president, is the guest artist of the month.

As a commercial photo stylist for 20 years and entrepreneur of Mary’s Canvas LLC, Collette is inspired by the shores of Lake Michigan for her work and gathers her whimsical painted stones (“Buggs”) from its shoreline. She captures in her photographs the composition and beauty of water, trees and nature, preserved for viewing again and again. A De Pere resident, Collette recently formed a candid photograph business she calls “You…Photos by Mary” that has taken off.

A frequent visitor to Door County since she was a child, Timmerman and her husband, Glenn, retired to the county about 10 years ago. Her love of drawing and architectural design has led her to paint her signature buildings that she visited as a child. Timmerman brings a light and bright touch to her paintings, endeavoring to capture the charm of these towns from a bygone era.

DCAL owes an appreciation to Mitch Heinrichs for his role as vice president and organizer for the September celebrations of the DCAL 30th anniversary. A reception is planned for Sept. 17 to feature his work from 3 to 5 pm.

Visit the gallery daily from 11 am to 5 pm. For more information, email [email protected] or visit doorcountyartleague.org.
