Shred Fest a Big Success

Welcome to the Notes from the Grove, providing Liberty Grove residents and visitors tid bits of information about goings on in town government.

• The Summer “Listening Session” was attended by 18 people and lasted just under one hour. The various ideas, suggestions, and comments will be taken up by the various committees for discussion and possible action.

• The Shred Fest and Electronic Recycling was a big success. 107 people participated with 10 only bringing materials for shredding. Two trucks were filled with collected electronics and appliances. Washington Island had three dump trucks full and required the return of the recycling company for their materials. The Town Board would like to extend their thank you to Washington Island for their participation. The board will consider another appliance and electronics session for late fall.

• The Site Management Plan for the Ellison Bay Hill Project is nearing completion. A reminder that the Board of Review is scheduled for September 28 beginning at 1 pm at the Town Hall. The “open book” is scheduled for the week of September 19.

• The Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Library will be holding its annual book sale on September 3 from 10 am – 4 pm at Marina Fest in Sister Bay. Book collection boxes are available starting August 15 at the library, Baylake Bank in Sister Bay and Ellison Bay, Town of Liberty Grove Hall and Pamida in Sister Bay. The boxes will be collected on September 3. They will accept used books, CDs, DVDs and books on tape. They will not take encyclopedias, magazines or textbooks.

• From the Town of Liberty Grove minutes book of the 1800s is a mention that on March 6, 1878 the Clerk was ordered to buy and place in the Town House five chairs for use of Town Officers.

• At the April 3rd 1878 Annual Town Meeting $10 was raised to clean up logs and brush around the Town House. A motion was made and seconded that the Town House could be used for lectures of religious purposes.
