Ski for Free, Hike at Crossroads

Crossroads at Big Creek’s 2020 educational theme is habitats, so throughout the year, Crossroads will offer programs featuring the habitats of its three preserves and Door County.

Head to Crossroads on Jan. 11, 9:30 am – 3:30 pm; and Jan. 12, 1-3:30 pm, for Ski for Free, when Crossroads and Door County Silent Sports lend, free of charge, an array of ski and snowshoe equipment in sizes to fit age three through large adults. Volunteers will fit you with equipment at the Crossroads maintenance building. Check crossroadsatbigcreek.com for current trail conditions.

On Jan. 11, 10:30 am, take an hour-long, family-friendly hike to explore the forests of Crossroads and visit several forest types in the Big Creek Preserve. Meet at the Collins Learning Center.

The Fish Tales lectures will begin Jan. 14, 7 pm, with “Are Changes in the Lower Food Web Limiting Lake Michigan Fisheries?” David Bunnell of the Great Lakes Science Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan, will present.

The Collins Learning Center, 2041 Michigan St. in Sturgeon Bay, is open weekdays, 10 am – 4 pm; weekends, 1-3:30 pm; and during scheduled activities. Trails are free and open to the public 24/7 for skiing, snowshoeing, hiking and biking.
