Sonny’s Owners Purchase Cherry Hut Property

The owners of Sonny’s Pizzeria have purchased the property that was the longtime home of Ray’s Cherry Hut on Highway 42 south of Fish Creek. The property most recently housed White Cottage Red Door. New owners Jason and Laura Estes are renaming the property Door County Cherry Hut, and they anticipate a May 1 opening. 

This market will feature specialty beers brewed by Bridge Up Brewing Company, Door County wines and specialty food items such as street tacos, gourmet hot dogs, cherry brats and beer brats made by a German smokehouse with Bridge Up beer. Door County Cherry Hut’s new, landscaped beer garden will have an outdoor seating capacity of 150.

For 26 years, the Estes family has served pizza and Italian fare at Sonny’s Pizzeria, 129 N. Madison Ave. in Sturgeon Bay. During the past six years, the Esteses have expanded the food format to include craft-beer offerings and specialty wines bottled specifically for their restaurants. Most recently, Jason Estes purchased the former Applebee’s building.
