STEAM Mystery Bags

After a successful inaugural year, the March STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) mystery-bag program is returning to the Baileys Harbor Library. Available for pickup starting March 1 and throughout the month, the bags provide hands-on learning and engineering fun. Those who complete the project by month’s end will receive a certificate and have their creations displayed at the library.

The STEAM concept has been gaining popularity with professions in these fields, increasing job creation and economic growth.

Each bag offers a challenge and a variety of items that spur creativity in problem solving. Participants may use any or all of the items in the bag, including the bag itself, and they may combine the recycled materials using scissors, glue or tape.

“I was looking for something that kids – or anyone – could do over spring break, especially those who don’t travel and are looking for things to do. They can work on it at the library or at home,” said branch manager Tracy Opper.

The Baileys Harbor Library’s winter hours are Monday and Friday, 10 am – 4pm; Wednesday, 1-7 pm; and Saturday, 10 am – 1 pm.
