Sturgeon Bay High School Hosts Inaugural Jazz Festival

The Sturgeon Bay High School instrumental music department will host its inaugural Jazz Festival on Jan. 20. Students from Sturgeon Bay High School and TJ Walker Middle School will be joined by Southern Door high-schoolers during a day-long clinic led by nationally-known jazz musicians.

Participating musicians include Mathew Buchman, Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, and Brent Turney, Professor of Trumpet at the same school.

The day of learning will culminate in a 7-pm concert at the Sturgeon Bay High School Auditorium, during which each student group will play several selections. The concert, which is open to the public, will also feature Door County’s own Swingin’ Door Big Band and Company B.

Admission is $10 per person. Proceeds will defray costs of the clinic and benefit the Robert H. Nickel Auditorium Fund.
