Summer Programs for the Door County String Academy

The Door County String Academy (DCSA) announces its Summer Programs for 2012.

At the Meet the Orchestra Camp, children ages four to six will learn about the instruments of the orchestra, hear live performances from each section of the orchestra (brass, woodwinds, percussion, and strings), make musical instruments and apply basic music theory concepts. They will also receive hands-on introductory experience with violin, viola, cello and string bass. The session will conclude in a joint performance with the DCSA Summer Fiddle Camp. The camp begins on July 9 and meets every Monday and Wednesday from 9 – 10:30 am for four weeks.

Fiddle Camp is for all violin, viola, cello and string bass players with at least one year of playing experience. Musicians will learn basic improvisation and chart-reading technique, receive instruction and guidance from local fiddlers, and explore bluegrass, country, folk and Irish fiddling genres. The session will conclude with a solo and fiddle ensemble performance. The camp begins on July 11 and meets from 5:30 – 6:30 pm for four weeks.

Summer Suzuki Violin Lessons is for children as young as four years old. Bruce Bowers, the DCSA’s Suzuki-certified violin instructor, will instruct a 15-minute Suzuki violin lesson on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning June 18 and ending on August 20. All supplies, including violin, are provided.

All programs will take place at Hope Church in Sturgeon Bay. For more information and registration forms call 920.495.5500 or visit http://www.dcstringacademy.com. Forms are also available at Child’s Play in Sturgeon Bay.
