Telephone Scam Targeting Door County Residents

The Door County Sheriff’s Office would like to alert residents of a telephone scam that has been targeting the area recently. Callers posing as law enforcement officials appear to be targeting the elderly by calling and telling them a grandchild or loved one in their family has been arrested, and is in need of cash to bond them out of jail. Recent complaints indicate these callers are very convincing, and may use personal information combined with multiple actors in an attempt to convince their victim to send a cash package to an out-of-state destination. Anyone receiving such a call should contact their own local law enforcement agency and have them validate and investigate the actual request before sending any money.
