The Cottage Retreat Gets Travel Green Certified

The Cottage Retreat in Egg Harbor was built with energy efficiency in mind more than 20 years ago, and now it’s Travel Green Wisconsin certified. Dale LaViolette’s establishment earned certification July 31 by blowing past the program’s minimum point requirement of 30, garnering 88 points.
LaViolette’s daughter Elena said they didn’t need to change much to join the lengthening scroll of Door County’s green businesses.
“A lot of it we were already doing,” she explained. “The construction of our units earned us a lot of our 81 points. Some are built into the ground to save on insulation, and all have lots of natural lighting and skylights. The newer cottages have in-floor heating, which helps because people turn the heat up when their feet get cold.”
