The Ridges Offers Herbicide Study Sessions

The Ridges Sanctuary will host weekly study sessions to prepare participants for the certification test in aquatic herbicide application. The State of Wisconsin requires individuals applying pesticides in an aquatic area to be certified with an herbicide applicators permit. With Door County’s abundance of wetlands and shorelines, many of the county’s invasive species are aquatic plant-related. Additionally, a number of threatened and endangered species require protection.

Whether an individual is interested in water quality protection, handling herbicides or the benefits of pesticides as a tool for pest management, they are encouraged to learn with The Ridges. Participants will meet Wednesdays from 6:30 – 8 pm at the Sturgeon Bay Library from Feb. 29 – March 28.

Applied discussions will include state regulations, restoration activities, water quality issues and techniques as they apply to pesticide application in the Door Peninsula and in the Upper Lake Michigan and Green Bay watersheds. Participants will meet over dinner and are asked to bring their meal.
