Transcontinental Bike Rider to Speak at Bread and Water

Susan Reed will be riding her recumbent bicycle from Wilmette, Illinois to Washington Island the weekend of October 3 and 4. This 255-mile, two-day ride is a short ride for Reed, who recently completed a 30-day transcontinental bicycle ride. She will be at Washington Island’s Bread and Water on Monday, October 5 at 7 pm to speak about the ride.

Reed left Portland, Oregon on July 5 of this year with 22 other riders. The riders averaged 116 miles each day, arriving on Tybee Island, Georgia on August 3, having ridden just under 3,500 miles.

“Day 8-30:  Thriving Strategies” is the story of Reed’s bike ride. She will share photos from the road, along with the story of what it takes to ride over 100 miles a day for 30 days – without a day off – and how she thrived during seemingly endless days of challenges.

Reed believes that everyone experiences “Day-8-30″ challenges,

whether the challenges are interpersonal, family, work, economic, or health-related. She is hopeful that the “thriving strategies” that supported her on her ride can be helpful to all who attend.
