Two Stangers

“Poetry in Motion” by Arlene Stanger

The Door County Art League (DCAL) Gallery is featuring the photography of Baileys Harbor residents Arlene and Steven Stanger during Aug. 9 – 15.

A retired microbiologist, Arlene has pursued her interest in film and digital photography for years. But lately, Arlene has been experimenting with the Holga film camera from China. She is also fascinated by iPhone photography, with its multitude of apps for shooting and editing.

A retired township assessor from Illinois, Steve enjoys capturing small, intimate sections of the subject matter he photographs. The resulting images are usually an abstract rendering of the scene. According to Steve, these abstract renderings accentuate the inherent interest that shapes, lines, angles and tonal quality project. To capture his abstractions, he uses in-camera multiple exposures, a vortoscope (kaleidoscope) and a closer than normal point of view relative to the subject matter.

Most recently, Steve won second place for his photography in The Hal Prize contest.

The DCAL gallery is open every day except Wednesday from 11 am to 5 pm (3 pm on Sundays). It is located in the rear courtyard of the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek. For more information visit doorcountyartleague.org.
