Upcoming Events at Edgewood Orchard

Jewelry by Elizabeth Garvin.

Edgewood Orchard Galleries will be hosting two special events the weekend of July 25, 26 and 27. An Elizabeth Garvin Trunk Show featuring her contemporary jewelry designs in silver and gold will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 am – 5 pm, while Illinois limestone carver Jim Johnson will be presenting a stone carving demonstration on Saturday from noon – 5 pm. Refreshments will be served throughout the weekend in the main gallery.

Elizabeth Garvin graduated with honors from New York University in 1986, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, with further studies at Parsons School of Design and Massachusetts College of Art. Her goal as a designer has been to created forms with classic elegance and enduring quality, while integrating various techniques and at times parting with tradition. Applying various techniques of patterning and finishing, each piece is playfully graphic, yet sensibly made to be surprisingly affordable.

Sculpture by Jim Johnson.

“I draw inspiration as much from industrial objects and processes as from nature and it’s examples of repetition and geometry,” says Garvin. “I am intrigued by design that is reduced to its simplest form, where all unnecessary elements have been removed and all that is left is the essence of the idea.”

In response to significant visitor interest surrounding the new sculpture garden at Edgewood Orchard Galleries, the gallery will host its first ever stone-carving demonstration on Saturday, July 26 from noon – 5 pm. Sculptor Jim Johnson will be demonstrating the limestone carving process he uses to create his frogs, birds, cats and other animals, along with free-form, stylized pieces. While they are suitable for indoor display, Johnson’s art pieces are typically displayed outside among gardens and walkways as they are shown throughout the gallery’s sculpture garden.

In addition to the jewelry trunk show, artwork from the artists featured in Exhibit III, including Door County painters Judi Ekholm and Craig Blietz, will be hanging at the gallery through August 19.

Artwork from the over 150 artists that Edgewood Orchard Galleries represents on an ongoing basis can be viewed at the gallery daily from 10 am – 5 pm or on the gallery Web site http://www.edgewoodorchard.com.
