Variety of Hikes at Newport

Geology hikes, bluebird monitoring hikes and tree identification is in store at Newport State Park.

On June 14, 9 am – 12 pm, Jack Travis will lead a geology hike with Jack Travis. Hikers will learn about geological features of the park and search for fossils. This is a moderate hike, and hikers should meet at the Visitor Center.

On June 18 at 10 am, the Citizen Science Program will meet for a Bluebird Monitoring Hike. Join volunteer naturalists Marilyn Hansotia and Bob Judd at the Visitor Center for a hike along the Monarch Trail. Take a close look at this once endangered species, along with other cavity nesting birds making their homes here. Wear sturdy footwear for the 1.5-mile hike.

On June 21 at 10 am, join arborist Tom Wolfe as he shows how to identify different tree and shrubs commonly found in Door County. He will also identify those not native to Door County as well as diseases and conditions that affect trees and shrubs. Meet at the park office.
