Washington Island Canoe & Kayak Event Features Tour by Terrie Cooper

Terrie Cooper, Land Program director for Door County Land Trust, will headline the eco-tour during the Third Annual Washington Island Canoe & Kayak Event. The tour will take place Saturday, June 18 from 3:30 – 5:30 pm. Kayaks will be available for rent or participants may bring their own. Beginners can team up with paddling partners in a tandem boat.

Cooper has been instrumental in helping to secure key shoreline properties for the Land Trust and Wisconsin DNR. She will interpret this valuable sanctuary where close-up viewing is best seen from the waterline by paddling. Expert support paddlers and participants will learn more about the Door County Land Trust and State of Wisconsin land protection efforts along Washington Island’s shore land. They will see waterfowl, small-mouth bass fingerlings in the reeds, Great Blue Heron and Great Egrets.

The June 17 – 19 event will include a marathon kayak race circumnavigating Washington Island, a half marathon in Detroit Harbor, paddle building workshop, keynote presentation by Door County’s naturalist and writer Roy Lukes, kayak symposium, and crossing of Death’s Door.
