Waste Disposal for Businesses

Veolia ES Technical Solutions has contracted with Door County to provide hazardous waste disposal services for the local business community, in conjunction with the Household Hazardous Waste Clean Sweep to be held Nov. 7 & 8. Businesses should register with Veolia and obtain a no-obligation price quote by Nov. 5. Call Chris Barlow with Veolia at 715.298.2623 to register.

Businesses are urged to consider using the clean sweep not only to save money, but also because businesses can reduce liability exposure, increase worker and customer protection, and increase environmental protection by safely and legally removing hazardous chemicals from their business site. Collection will take place on the following dates in these locations: Nov. 7, 3:30 – 5:30 pm, Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Station at 2258 Mill Road; and Nov. 8, 8 – 10 am, Door County Highway Department at 1001 South Duluth Ave., Sturgeon Bay.

Acceptable items to bring include: aerosol cans, batteries (except automobile batteries), gasoline/oil mixtures, brake fluid, antifreeze, rat poison, pool chemicals, fluorescent bulbs (limit 10 per resident), and many more items.

The following items won’t be accepted: latex paint, radioactives, explosives, biologicals, tires, automobile batteries, medical wastes, cylinders (propane), ammunition, commercial wastes, computer/electronic components and oil.

All chemical wastes are not legally defined as “hazardous.” If your unwanted chemicals fit some other definition, your final costs may be lower. Any business with bulk wastes (e.g. 55-gallon drums or crates of solid chemicals) will receive quantity discounts.
