What Happened?

• The Southern Door School Board approved a resolution to place a three-year, $3.08 million non-recurring revenue limit override referendum on the ballot this April.

• The Door County Destroyers semi-pro football team was officially accepted into the Wisconsin State Football League for the 2013 season. The WSFL season starts in late July and ends in early November. The Destroyers will play their home games at the Baileys Harbor Recreational Park, with one game being played at Memorial Field in Sturgeon Bay.

• On Jan. 18, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit ruled constitutional the collective bargaining limitations of Wisconsin Act 10, the controversial law that led to last summer’s gubernatorial recall election. In a statement, Gov. Scott Walker called the decision a victory for Wisconsin taxpayers. “The provisions contained in Act 10 … were vital in balancing Wisconsin’s $3.6 billion budget deficit without increasing taxes, without massive public employee layoffs, and without cuts to programs like Medicaid,” said Walker.

• After a contentious discussion, the Door County Board of Supervisors voted to create a Deputy Director position for the county’s new Human Services Department. The discussion focused around the pay grade of the position, which has already been unofficially filled by former Department of Human Services Director Roger Tepe.

• The Sister Bay Economic Development Committee met with Jolena Presti of Vandewalle & Associates, Inc. consulting firm to talk about the future of downtown development in the village of Sister Bay. The village hired the firm for $40,820.
