What To Do In Door County This Weekend: May 8 – 10

May is underway and the busy season awaits. In the meantime, check out some of our top picks for the weekend ahead:

Friday, May 8

Toft House Grand Opening in Baileys Harbor: Come down and check out the new Visitor Center and Baileys Harbor Historical Society. Join us for appetizers from Harbor Fish Market & Grille, refreshments and wine from Top Deck at Gordon Lodge, beer from Door County Brewing Company, soda, water, and live music by Small Forest. 5 – 9pm.

Big Mouth Trio at Door County Brewing Company: Playing for the Prem Lama fundraiser. Lama lives in Institute but his family’s village was destroyed by the recent earthquake in Nepal and funds raised will be sent to help them get supplies for rebuilding. $2 from each beer will be donated and additional donations will be accepted all day. 6-8pm.

Rushad Eggleston at Frozen Spoon: A revolutionary cellist, poet, and composer. Free admission, tips encouraged. 8 pm.

Saturday, May 9

Blossom Run/LiveSTRONG Run in Egg Harbor: Fun, family event for all ages. Choose from a 5-mile run, a 2-mile walk-run or a 1-mile youth run. Join in the “Live Strong” relay. 7am registration, 8:30 am run starts.

Glimpses of Spring at Newport State Park: Come check out what is blooming, greening up and tweeting at the park. 10 am.

Small Forest at The Cookery: Local progressive folk band playing original folk/rock by mother/daughter songwriting team Marybeth Mattson and Jeanne Kuhns with acoustic guitars, djembe, and Pat Palmer on bass. 5pm.

Sunday, May 10

Mother’s Day Wildflower Hike at Crossroads: Join the naturalist in a one hour hike to look for spring wildflowers. 1pm.

Lawrence Concert at Bjorklunden: The trumpet studio of John Daniel will present a program of trumpet music, featuring the composer Eric Morales. 1:30 pm.
