William Koehler Joins Midsummer’s Music Board

Award-winning pianist William Koehler recently joined the board of Midsummer’s Music, starting his initial three-year term.

Koehler was the organization’s original pianist 34 years ago. He performed with Midsummer’s for 28 years until he retired in 2018.

A native of Houston, Texas, Koehler is Professor Emeritus at Northern Illinois University, where he taught piano from 1985 to 2014. He studied with Moreland Roller, Adele Marcus, and William Race, and his awards include first prizes in the 1984 San Antonio International Keyboard Competition and the 1989 New Orleans International Piano Competition.

“It’s a privilege to join the board of Midsummer’s Music, to learn more about its scope and vision, and to share in its efforts to maintain the organization’s high level of artistic accomplishment and community outreach,” Koehler said.

Koehler’s predecessor on the board was Nancy Borghesi, who contributed years of service and acted as treasurer.
