With A Little Help From Friends

Artist Beth Lipman came to Sturgeon Bay in early July to use the facility and team at Popelka Trenchard Glass where she has been creating a large installation that was commissioned by the Rhode Island School of Design Museum. Not having a hot glass studio of her own, Lipman, who runs the Artist in Residency program at the John Michael Kohler Art Center in Sheboygan, often comes to Sturgeon Bay to work with hot glass.

“It is very exciting to have her come up here to make her work,” says Stephanie Trenchard. “We are always learning new techniques. It is very healthy for artists to work together, especially in glass where it is traditionally a team effort.”

Lipman appreciates the technical prowess of Jeremy Popelka, who often enjoys the challenging pieces that she asks him to create for her. In the photo shown they are working on creating a 20″ long running squirrel in glass. Also shown with Jeremy Popelka, Stephanie Trenchard and Beth Lipman is Scott Kelley, who is part of the team at Popelka Trenchard Glass.

“After You’re Gone: an Installation by Beth Lipman” will run from August 22 through January 18 at the Rhode Island School of Design Museum.
