Woman Dies When Car is Driven Into Water at Sister Bay Marina

Police have released the name of the victim who died when a car she was in was driven into the water at the Sister Bay marina Oct. 14.

Victora Burger, 24, of Sobieski, died when the vehicle was submerged in about eight feet of water at the marina’s boat launch at 9:58 pm.  A second woman, 24-year-old Jennifer Drewski of De Pere,  escaped the vehicle and survived.

According to her obituary, Burger was a enrolled in the masters program in social work at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay, where she earned her B.S. in clinical psychology. She was also a volunteer at a Green Bay veteran’s center.

The Door County Sheriff’s Office was notified at 9:58 pm that a vehicle had driven into the water at Sister Bay Marina. Deputies arrived within one minute and found a white Hyundai 4-door submerged in the water near the boat launch. Deputies assisted removing one conscious female victim from the water, and she told them that another person was still in the car.

Paramedics from Door County Emergency Services dove into the water and made two attempts to locate the second victim. Their efforts were hampered by the water temperature. When a member of the Door County Dive Team arrived at the scene he located the second victim and brought her to shore. Both victims were transported by ambulance to the Door County Medical Center.

The incident remains under investigation by the Door County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies and firefighters remained at the scene of the incident for several hours. Responding agencies included the Sister Bay-Liberty Grove Fire Department, the Ephraim Fire Department, the Gibraltar Fire Department, the Baileys Harbor Fire Department, the Northern Door First Responders, Door County Emergency Services, the Door County Sheriff’s Office, Door County Sheriff’s Reserves, and the Door County Dive Team. The Door County Dive Team is a multi-jurisdictional team comprised of members of the Department of Natural Resources, Sturgeon Bay Police Department, Sturgeon Bay Fire Department, Door County Emergency Services, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Door County Sheriff’s Office.
