Women Build Program Holds Monthly Work Day

The Door County Habitat for Humanity Women Build Program will be holding its second monthly Women Build work day of the summer July 21.

The program, which got its local start in 2009, completed a whole house remodel last year, and in 2012, the Habitat Women Build participants have decided to partner in the current Thrivent Builds project in Institute. That three-bedroom home, which will be finished by late August or early September, will benefit from at least three Women Build work days this summer.

Women Build is a program of Habitat for Humanity International that aims to empower women by providing training and hands on opportunities for home building activities. In Door County, through three Women Build training classes, dozens of women have been trained in the basics of carpentry/construction. Graduates of those classes have assisted in building the last eight Habitat homes in Door County.

Women Build is always ready to accept new volunteers of any skill level. Women interested in learning more are encouraged to contact Marci Shortreed at the Habitat office.
