2016 Goat Fest in Sister Bay

The Sister Bay Advancement Association is pleased to announce that June 11 is the date for the fourth annual Roofing of the Goats Parade on Hwy. 42 in downtown Sister Bay. The annual Goat Parade at 10:30 am is a very homespun event that combines goats, Door County visitors, good spirits and general hijinks with what the organizers hope will be beautiful weather. At the end of the parade, Al Johnson’s goats are led up onto the green sod roof, inaugurating yet another season of goat-watching in Sister Bay. The parade will line up on the green space at the corner of Mill Road and Hwy. 42 (just north of the Sister Bay Bowl in downtown Sister Bay) and proceed north on Hwy. 42 towards Al Johnson’s.

This year’s Goat Parade will be followed by Al Johnson’s second annual Goat Fest, located on the green space next to the restaurant at 10698 N. Bay Shore Drive. Goat Fest will feature live music by the Chicago-based band Cardinal Harbor, fun kids games, various beverages (alcoholic and otherwise), Meatballs & Mashed Potatoes In A Cup, and a Swedish Pancake Eating Contest. Attendees who wear a dirndl or other authentic folk attire to Goat Fest will be offered their choice of a free beverage. Other downtown Sister Bay businesses — including Husby’s, Door County Creamery and Sister Bay Bowl — are planning to offer their own festivities and specials.

Husby’s and other Sister Bay businesses will soon begin selling “goat drop stickers” for $10 each as a fundraiser for Koinonia Kupboard, a food pantry managed and supported by First Baptist Church of Sister Bay. If a goat poops on your sticker during the parade, you could win a TREK Elektra Cruiser, among many other prizes.

Note to parade-watchers: please don’t bring dogs to the goat parade as goats are afraid of dogs. All Door County goats are invited to participate in this parade.
