Artists Converge for 12th Plein Air Festival

The roadsides of Door County were dotted with easels and artists this past week for the 12th year of the Door County Plein Air Festival.

Organized by the Peninsula School of Art, the festival is one of the most respected of its kind and attracts some of the top plein air painters in the country to the scenery of Door County.

Thirty-nine artists painted at specific locations outdoors, while others popped up in other locations that inspired them. Some of the remaining events are:

July 27

Gala Auction, 6:30-9 pm

Hors d’oeuvres, wine, music and fresh painting from featured artists sold by silent auction. $80

July 28

Quick Paint and Live Auction, 9 am – 2 pm

Featured artists complete a painting from start to finish in the Quick Paint competition. Live auction at noon at Waterfront Park, Sister Bay.

Dockside Quick Paint, 9-11 am

Quick paint at the Hardy Gallery with more than $2,500 in art supply awards for winners.

Kids Paint, 9-11 am

Kids quick paint. No pre-registration required. $5

Open Door Celebration, 6-8 pm

Free celebration with hors d’oeuvres and beer and wine for sale. View and purchase artworks.
