Author Liam Callanan Featured in Reading

The Friends of Door County Libraries is resuming its Book & Author series following a pandemic-driven hiatus. Partnering with Write On, Door County, the Friends will host prize-winning author Liam Callanan on June 8, 7 pm, at the Kress Pavilion, 7845 Church St. in Egg Harbor.

Callanan’s newest book, When In Rome, traces the journey of an American real estate agent whose midlife crisis leads her to Rome and an effort to save a struggling convent. During the program, Callanan will read from When in Rome, discuss his past books and writing process, and answer audience questions. Novel Bay Booksellers will have copies of his books available for purchase and signing.

Callanan’s last book, Paris by the Book, was a national bestseller, winning the 2019 Edna Ferber Prize, and had several foreign translations. His 2004 debut novel, The Cloud Atlas (not to be confused with a recent book with a similar title), was a finalist for an Edgar Award, the mystery world’s highest accolade.

When not penning novels, Callanan is a professor of English and coordinator of the creative-writing program at UW-Milwaukee, where he previously chaired the Ph.D. program in creative writing. He was the 2017 recipient of the George W. Hunt, S.J., Prize in Journalism, Arts and Letters.

Keep an ear out for an upcoming episode of the Door County Pulse Podcast featuring Callanan.
