Back-to-School Fair Successful Again

Backpacks were selected and ready for filling by three young ladies at Altrusa’s annual Back-to-School Fair, held Aug. 9 at the Sturgeon Bay YMCA. More than 250 local girls participated in the Fair, more girls than in years past. The fair is supported in part by a generous $500 grant from the Women’s Fund, a component of the Door County Community Foundation.

The children attending the fair, with help from their guides, filled their packs with school spirit shirts, many grade-specific school supplies, socks, underwear, toiletries, bike helmets and certificates for new gym shoes. Altrusa Club of Door County, a local chapter of a women’s community service organization with focus on literacy, also pays registration fees. The Women’s Fund motto – “When She Thrives, We All Prosper” – pairs well with Altrusa’s mission statement – “Advancing Literacy Through Opportunities.”
