Barb’s YMCA Story

The Door County YMCA is launching its annual campaign to ensure that everyone in Door County has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. With the community’s financial help, the YMCA helps individuals and families in need to participate in programs.

One of those individuals is Barb. She began her journey with Parkinson’s in 2010. The symptoms were so subtle and normal in her case that she initially ignored them and attributed them to the effects of aging.

Barb’s neurologist suggested she join the Parkinson Syndrome Exercise class at the Y to improve mobility. Gradually Barb began to see some personal improvement. Barb shared that “the courage to keep moving is not always a roar – sometimes it’s a whisper in the night and I remind myself that things are always better tomorrow.”
