Big Band Jazz Session Begins at Birch Creek

Birch Creek marks the halfway point of the season and welcomes world-class jazz performers to the stage. Birch Creek continues to provide the highest quality concerts and events with entertainment provided by world-class faculty, musicians, and performers. Big Band Jazz session begins this week and welcomes returning faculty members, Joey Tartell and Michael Stryker.

Tartell returns to Birch Creek for his 15th season, and plays the trumpet. He is currently on the faculty of the Indiana University School of Music. As a freelance trumpeter, he has played with the bands of Maynard Fergusson, Woody Herman, Glenn Miller, the Count Basie Orchestra and Doc Severinsen. Additionally, he tours as a member of the internationally acclaimed Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra.

Stryker returns for his 10th summer at Birch Creek. Stryker is a pianist from Macomb, IL. He is Assistant Professor of Jazz Piano in the School of Music at Western Illinois University. Stryker directs big bands, coaches jazz combos, teaches jazz history, and is a member of the Dale Hopper Faculty Jazz Sextet.
