Billy Weiss American Legion Post 527 Memorial Day Ceremonies

Billy Weiss American Legion Post 527 and VFW Post 8337 of Ellison Bay will hold two Memorial Day Ceremonies May 29.

The first ceremony will be at 9 am at Hendrickson Park, on the corner of Mill Road and Hwy. 42 in the Village of Sister Bay. This will include a laying of a wreath honoring local veterans.

At 10:30 am they will gather at Little Sister Cemetery on Little Sister Road next to Bay Ridge Golf Course in Sister Bay. The service will begin with American Legion Post 527, VFW Post 8337 and the Boy Scouts marching to the Eldred and Millie Koepsel Memorial Flag Pole to lower the flag to half-staff; Reverend Mark Billingham of First Baptist Church will lead the invocation. The First Baptist Church choir will sing a selection of songs, the Gibraltar High School Band, led by Navy veteran Charlie Eckhardt, will play a medley of military songs. Col. Tim Lawrie, U.S. Army, retired, will be the featured speaker.

Deceased veterans from this past year will be honored with the reading of their names by Don Sitte of Post 527 and Davis Sitte of VFW Post 8337. Post 527 Bugler Dale Seaquist will sound TAPS. The service will conclude with the singing of “God Bless America,” led by soloist Regina McIntosh.

Bring a chair. Should it rain the gathering will move to First Baptist Church, 2622 S. Bay Shore Drive, (Hwy 42), Sister Bay. All are welcome.
