Bjِrklunden Presents “Americana”

Bjِrklunden presents “Americana,” a program featuring saxophone and piano music inspired by the American musical ethos on Sept. 4 at 7 pm. The program will explore the fusion of ragtime, jazz, and musical theatre; and featured American composers include Gunther Schuller, Mohammed Fairouz, and William Albright. The program also includes Dutch composer, Jacob TV, who draws much musical material from American culture.

The artists on the program include saxophonist Sara Kind, and pianist Katie Reimer, both alumni from the Lawrence Conservatory of Music in Appleton. Kind is currently on faculty at the Lawrence Conservatory of Music, as well as the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. Reimer was acclaimed by the New York Times for her “meditative” playing, and is currently the pianist, artistic and executive director of the Mimesis Ensemble, a New York City based group dedicated to music from the 20th and 21st centuries.

The concert has a suggested donation of $20 ($10 for students). Bjِrklunden is located at 7590 Boynton Lane in Baileys Harbor.
