Boater’s Safety Course Starts April 13

The Door County Sail & Power Squadron is offering a boater’s safety course beginning the evening of Tuesday, April 13, at the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Sturgeon Bay.

The course, entitled ABC-3, can be taken in five sessions, with session six optional. The first five sessions qualify as a DNR-prescribed boating safety course, providing the basic instruction needed to successfully complete the DNR exam required for a safety certificate issued by the DNR.

The class will be taught by Lt. William C. Galligan, AP, of Sturgeon Bay. Galligan has been boating all his life and has sailed in everything from 10-foot dinghies to 65-foot racing machines. He is a long-time member of the Door County Sail & Power Squadron and has taught boating classes for a number of years.

Registration for ABC-3 is at 6 pm on April 13, and the class starts at 6:30 pm. Subsequent classes begin at 6:30 pm. The course is $30 for the text and $1 for the DNR exam processing in session four. Children, ages 11-15, can take the course if accompanied by an adult; however, they must be 12 years old before taking the exam. The location is Room 103 at the college located at 229 N. 14th Avenue.
