Boys and Girls Club Launches Middle School Mentoring Program

Over a year of planning and surveying paid off on Oct. 9 with the launch of The Boys and Girls Club of Door County’s Middle School Mentoring Program.

The Club’s temporary home is Marshall House on Michigan Avenue. Programming hours are currently Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 3:30 – 6:30 pm. The first hour of programming is set aside for homework assistance and tutoring.

“We want to help expand the opportunities for middle school youth,” said Executive Director Heather Powell. “We also want to empower them with a voice to help shape what their club looks like. We have opened in a temporary setting with a tentative plan because we want them to help shape what this is to become, and we want them to feel a sense of ownership.”

Membership to the teen club is $10 annually; teens may visit the club three times before they need to become a member.
