Congratulations to Bernie Brickner

In our food stores the products don’t magically appear,
On the shelves all primed and polished and neat.
Let me tell ya dear shoppers from the producer to the aisle,
You need someone energetic who thinks on their feet.

The server this week fills that job description,
Like an “air traffic controller” at Econo Foods.
She keeps the back room all neat and organized,
Puts drivers as well as customers in happy moods.

She’s been on this job for just over thirty years,
As efficient with a computer or large hand truck,
With quite a history in the grocery business,
First job was in produce at Save-a-Buck.
(Remember them?)

Bernie cleans the back yard, blows the snow around too,
As trucks come to the back door or loading dock.
Starts at 5:30 each day double-checking all the costs,
Get there by twelve or the doors just might be locked.
