Control Invasive Species at Whitefish Dunes

Join the Friends of Whitefish Dunes to tackle Dame’s Rocket, Garlic Mustard and Hounds Tongue and preserve rare plants found in the Park.

Mike Locatelli, Wildlife Technician, will lead workdays every Friday in May to control the invasive species. Event dates are May 7 at 1:30 pm; May 14 at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm; May 21 at 1:30 pm and May 28 at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm.

Volunteers are encouraged to come for one or two hours and dress for the weather (long pants are preferable). Pre-registration is not required but appreciated. Water, gloves and a snack will be provided. Volunteers for this event will receive a complimentary daily vehicle sticker and should meet at the Nature Center.

Also, on May 8, the Friends of Whitefish Dunes will host their spring workday to ready the park for summer. There are opportunities to volunteer inside and out, morning and afternoon. Children under the ages of 18 are welcome but must work with a parent/adult. Start times are 9 am and 1 pm. Lunch and a water bottle are provided to all volunteers. Advanced registration is free, but required.

Whitefish Dunes State Park is located at 3275 Clark Lake Road (county WD), on the Lake Michigan shoreline south of Jacksonport.
