Costa Rican Bird Connection Discussed at Lake Lessons

On July 9 at 7 pm, DNR ecologist Joe Henry will present “The Costa Rican Bird Connection.” The program will be held at the Baileys Harbor Town Hall as part of The Ridges Sanctuary’s Lake Lessons series. Henry’s program will highlight the partnership between the WI Bird Conservation Initiative and Osa Conservation to protect wintering habitat on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica for 54 species of our local Wisconsin neotropical migratory birds.

“The presentation is a great way for folks to learn about the importance of this international conservation work both for North American and Costa Rican wildlife,” said Henry. “The program also highlights the stunning wealth of biodiversity on the Osa Peninsula.”

Attendees will have an opportunity to get involved by purchasing shade grown coffee, supporting or forming a team for the 2013 Great Wisconsin Birdathon, or signing up for a Conservation Birding Trip to the Osa Peninsula.

Admission to Lake Lessons is free, but donations are welcome.

Parents still have time to register their children for the July day camps at The Ridges. Children entering first or second grade are eligible for Foxes Camp beginning July 2, and continuing on July 9, 16 & 23. Children in third though sixth grade are welcome to register for Explorers that begins on July 3 with subsequent sessions on July 11, 18 and 25.

Sessions are held from 9 am – 12 pm. Children may attend any or all sessions. The cost for this program is $20/session for Ridges members, $25/session for the general public.
