The County of Door has collected more revenue from its 0.5% sales tax than it had last year at the year’s halfway point: Collections through July 2022 were $2,763,096, or $101,919 more than the county had collected by the same time last year.
If the trend continues, sales-tax collections will surpass the previous record set in 2021 of $5,633,974 – 150% more than the 2020 record high of $4,343,050. During the first six months of this year, sales-tax collections have exceeded 2021 collections in the months of January, February, March and June.
The county’s 0.5% sales tax is charged on certain goods and services such as personal property (e.g., clothing, furniture and computers).
The county projected $4 million in revenue from the sales tax in the 2022 budget and has achieved 69% of that by the halfway mark.
