Crossroads Hosts Roadside Wildflowers Lecture

On Feb. 28 Crossroads at Big Creek will host the Wild Ones lecture titled “Preview of Spring and Summer: Roadside Wildflowers.” Wild Ones President Dr. Peter Sigmann will present the lecture. He photographed wildflowers of all types while bicycling the county for one year. The resulting slideshow demonstrates the visual attractiveness of the roadsides. Roadsides are corridors of insects, birds and mammals that have to travel in search of food, mates or suitable climate. The presentation will be followed by a discussion concerning ways to properly care for the roadside vegetation.

Also at Crossroads, the Ski For Free program is offered on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 – 3:30 pm. The program lends, free of charge, an array of ski and snowshoe equipment in sizes to fit age 3 through large adult. When trail conditions permit, go to the Crossroads Maintenance Building and volunteers will fit the equipment, share a few pointers and a trail map.

The Collins Learning Center at Crossroads, open 2 – 4:30 pm daily, is located at 2041 Michigan in Sturgeon Bay. Trails at Crossroads, Big Creek Cove and our Ida Bay Preserve are free and open to the public. When there is snow, walkers are asked to avoid designated ski trails.
