Daoust’s 40 Points Shoot Eagles Past Clippers

Drew Daoust tallied 25 of his game-high 40 points in the first half Thursday when Southern Door’s boys basketball team won its Packerland Conference contest at Sturgeon Bay, 62-54.

Daoust, the Eagles’ only player to score in double figures, made four three-pointers and also shot 14-17 from the free-throw line.

The Clippers, who made 10 baskets behind the arc, were led by Calvin Richard and Jackson Starr with 15 points apiece. Garrett Ulberg added 11 points.

Sturgeon Bay took advantage of outside scoring opportunities early and jumped out to an 8-0 lead, before being outscored 38-17 by Southern Door for the remainder of the first half.

The Clippers cut the deficit to 43-40 midway through the second half, but were unable to regain the lead before time expired.

The Eagles, who improved to 3-0 in the Packerland and 3-3 overall, return to action Tuesday when they host a conference game against Algoma.

Sturgeon Bay (2-2, 4-2) next plays a non-conference game Dec. 21 at St. Mary Catholic.
