Deceased Man Found in Sturgeon Bay Identified

The Sturgeon Bay Police Department has released the name of the man who was found dead on the side of the road at 7 am on Jan. 31 in the 100 block of South Lansing Avenue in Sturgeon Bay.

Carl Russell Johnson, 61, of Sturgeon Bay, was likely walking home from a Sturgeon Bay address in the late-evening hours of Jan. 30 or the early-morning hours of Jan. 31 when he died, according to the police department. 

The official cause and manner of death were still pending following the completion of a Feb. 2 autopsy, but the Brown County medical examiner “is confident foul play is not a factor, and the extreme cold weather condition likely contributed to [Johnson’s] death,” according to the Sturgeon Bay Police Department’s statement.

The police department said the investigation is not criminal in nature and is considered closed.
