Demolition Imminent for Former Sunset School

Demolition of the former Sunset School is set to begin late this month to make way for an apartment development with four buildings totaling 26 units that’s planned on the site, said Jacqui McElroy, director of business development for S.C. Swiderski.

“Site work will follow for the rest of the summer, and then buildings will start in the fall,” she said. “Each building will open as it is completed, with all four buildings scheduled to open by summer 2023.”

S.C. Swiderski received approval from the City of Sturgeon Bay for a planned-unit development and site plan calling for two two-story, eight-unit buildings with attached garages between Delaware Street and Erie Street, as well as four- and six-unit attached buildings along North 8th Avenue.

Plans that the company submitted for the development, to be known as SCS Sunset Estates, include two building types, along with a community area and two entryways. The 26 units will feature two- and three-bedroom options with six different floor plans.

McElroy said rent will be based on market rates, with heat included and tenants paying for electricity. She said that any prospective tenants or businesses that want to sign up for updates and be invited to hard-hat tours as the construction progresses may fill out a form at scswiderski.com/sunset-estatespred.
