Dickinson Poetry Series Features Gibraltar Student Poets

In the first year of the Emily Dickinson Poetry Series, 2009-2010, a Gibraltar High School student was the featured reader. The reading was such a success the poetry series organizers felt compelled to encourage more student readers. One reading each year was established just for students. The audiences have been moved by the depth and poignancy of the student poems.

Lauren Bremer, an English teacher at Gibraltar High School, teaches, coaches and inspires the students’ poetry. This year, the ninth in the series, many students have already asked to read:  Mason Bauldry, Spencer Berndt, Avalynn Clayton, Ethan Farnham, Kathleen Jackson, Sarah Kifer, Maggie Parzych, Gracie Richards, and Paige Thompson.

Students will read at the next meeting of the Dickinson Poetry Series, Feb. 14, 7 pm. A post-reading reception provides an opportunity to discuss the poetry.

On the second Wednesday of every month the Dickinson Poetry Series features a local or regional poet followed by an open mic and reception to meet the poets. The series is named for Emily Dickinson, a prolific poet and philosophically in tune with Unitarian beliefs. The public is welcome and there is no charge. The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is located at 10341 Hwy 42 in north Ephraim. For more information call 920.854.7559.
