DKAF Announces Film Fest Winners

The Door Kinetic Arts Festival (DKAF) returned to Björklunden in Baileys Harbor last month after a canceled festival in 2020 and an all-virtual event in 2021. DKAF again featured cocktails, short films, and a mix of local and nationally known artists in dance, theater and music.

Film submissions from 15 countries competed for several awards. The Audience Favorite was Almost a Masterpiece by Robert Belinoff of Corrales, New Mexico; the Best Narrative Film honor went to Just About by Mahmood Pouyandeh of Iran; Iwona Pasińska of Poland won Best Dance Film for Herbarium; the Special Jury Award went to Rough Magic: Exit Shakespeare by Andy Wolk of Beverly Hills; Cynthia Johnson of Madison received the honor of Best Wisconsin Film for To Be Fair; the Best Animated Film was Ghost’s Best Friend by Michael James Leffler of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; and Unspoken by William Armstrong of Botswana was chosen as the Best Documentary Film.

DKAF’s artistic director, Eric Simonson; and producer Alan Kopischke are already in negotiations with national and local artists for next year’s residencies and programming. Follow festival updates at doorkinetic.com and on Facebook.
