DNR Meeting in Gills Rock Over Chinook Stocking

• The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hosting a meeting in Gills Rock on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 6 pm to discuss stocking Chinook salmon in northern Door County.

At the meeting, DNR staff will review stocking allocation decisions and talk about the specific location stocking will take place. The meeting will be held at Weborg’s Marina at 12689 Hwy. 42 in the metal net building behind the fish processing house.

• The 2014 Farm Fresh Atlas of Eastern Wisconsin is now accepting applications from farms, businesses, event holders, farmers markets, community gardens, certified kitchens and donors that want to advertise their local products and services. The Atlas is a consumer’s guide to local foods and sustainable businesses. It includes a map with farm locations as well as a directory of all atlas sponsors and participants in the region. The Eastern Atlas covers the Oneida Nation and counties of Brown, Calumet, Door, Fond du Lac, Dodge, Green Lake, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Marinette, Menominee, Oconto, Outagamie, Ozaukee, Shawano, Sheboygan, Washington, Waupaca, Waushara, and Winnebago. Food-related businesses that support farmers such as cheese factories, food co-ops, restaurants, bakeries, meat processors, and others can participate as business sponsors. Events that sell or promote local foods and encourage community growth as well as farmers markets are welcome to be included in the listings. All listing of the print version of the 2014 Atlas will also be included in the online version at farmfresheastwi.org. About 35,000 atlases will be distributed for free in 2014.
