DNR Releases Impaired Waters List

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has released its Impaired Waters List, and the public is encouraged to submit comments through Jan. 15.

The list includes the state’s polluted or degraded lakes, streams, and rivers. The Department of Natural Resources updates the list every two years as required by the Clean Water Act, and the 2010 draft updates are now available.
The draft List and background information can be found at the Department of Natural Resources Web site at http://dnr.wi.gov.

The Ahnapee River, Mackaysee Lake and Stony Creek are listed as low priority impaired waters on the list. Anclam Park Beach in Baileys Harbor has been proposed for future inclusion on the list. Clark Lake in Jacksonport and Sturgeon Bay waters have both been delisted since 2002, and Sunset Beach in Sturgeon Bay is proposed for delisting.

Comments on the draft Impaired Waters List may be emailed to [email protected], or mailed to Wisconsin DNR, Water Evaluation Section (WT/3), P.O. Box 7921, Madison, WI, 53707-7921.
