Door County Art League Disbands after 30 Years

At the Sept. 26 Door County Art League (DCAL) meeting, the Board of Directors recommended and approved the dissolution of the art league and gallery, and will proceed with this action prior to the end of 2016.

DCAL was organized in 1986 for the purpose of developing active community interest in the creative arts of a wide range of mediums from novices to artists with national recognition. The aging of the membership and lack of volunteers to assume leadership positions on the board led to the difficult decision despite the sound financial position of DCAL. Over the last 30 years, DCAL has pursued a policy as a 501c3 entity of providing enhancement for the arts in Door County and the promotion of the artistic talents of its artists.

Hundreds of artists have progressed in their art through multiple opportunities to exhibit throughout Door County. Since 1997, the annual DCAL Showcase has provided a venue for artists to receive acknowledgement for their work via the Master Artists, People’s Choice Award and Juried Awards. The DCAL Master Artist Award has been a chronicle of the Who’s Who of Door County artists, including Hermke Timm in 2016 and Bridget Austin in 2015.

The gallery will also close on Oct. 22 and will not reopen in 2017.

The nonprofit Door County Art League and its members have had a positive, long-lasting impact on the Door County community and the arts over its 30-year history. The Door County Art League wishes to thank friends, members and patrons that have participated in the mission of promoting the arts and artists in Door County.
