Door County Festival: Racers – Start Your Goldfish!

Hands On Art Studio and the Door County Humane Society are teaming up to present the 1st Annual Goldfish Races on Saturday, Feb. 7, from noon – 4 pm. One of many games offered during Fish Creek Winter Festival, goldfish racing is a new twist on the minnow races festival goers used to enjoy.

“We wanted to reinvent Winter Festival, which meant that we needed new games,” said Cy Turnbladh, owner of Hands On Art Studio. “We all decided to collaborate with local non-profits to provide volunteer help to the games and revenue for the organizations.”

There will be five racing lanes, made of clear plastic, allowing five people to race at once. There are two ways to win – by racing or by cheering on the racers. The winners get tickets to redeem for valuable projects at Hands On.

“We will have goldfish bowls for people to decorate and retired athletes available for adoption,” said Turnbladh. “Think of this as goldfish rescue, saving them from certain demise as feeder fish.”

The Door County Trolley will be running between downtown Fish Creek and Hands On every 15 minutes, making it convenient and fun to join in the races. Snacks and beverages will be available. Hands On will be open from 10 am – 5 pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Rock n’ Roll Art Night returns on Friday night Feb. 6, with music from Big Mouth Trio, from 6:30 – 10pm.
