Door County Maritime Museum Classic & Wood Boat Festival Calls for Entries

The ice yacht “Whistler” was last year’s “Best of Show” award winner at the Door County Maritime Museum Classic & Wood Boat Festival.

The Door County Maritime Museum Classic & Wood Boat Festival is making its annual call for entries. The festival is scheduled for the weekend of August 6 and 7 and annually features a remarkable assortment of vessels with awards for power, sail and self-powered boats. Festival attendees will also vote for People’s Choice award winners on the Saturday of the show.

The Sikaflex Challenge boat building competition returns with construction on Saturday and the race on Sunday. Participants will be restricted in the amount of material and tools they can use during construction.

New this year, the Maritime Mart will incorporate elements of a nautical flea market with an arts & crafts fair. However, arts & crafts are restricted to works with a maritime theme. A space can be reserved for $50 by contacting the museum.

Area artists are invited to participate in the Saturday plein air painting event, Paint the Bay. Works must have a maritime theme and be completed and returned to the festival grounds by 1 pm. A silent auction will follow with proceeds going to the artist and the museum. Entry fee is $10 and forms to pre-register are available at the museum or online. Registrations will also be taken beginning at 8 am the morning of the event.

For more information or registration materials visit the museum, located at 120 N. Madison Avenue in Sturgeon Bay, call 920.743.5958, or visit http://www.dcmm.org.
