Door County Master Gardeners Sponsor Talk featuring Charlotte Lukes

On April 4, the Door County Master Gardeners Association will sponsor a talk titled “Door County Wild Mushrooms” presented by Charlotte Lukes. It will begin at 7 pm at Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay. The program will highlight the great variety of mushrooms found in many of our parks and preserves. Colored slides will reveal close features that are sometimes missed by the casual observer. Several deadly poisonous species will be discussed as well as some of the more common edibles. A display of favorite mushroom field guides will also be included.

Lukes has been studying wild mushrooms for more than 44 years and has identified 573 species in Door County. She has presented mushroom programs in numerous parks and natural areas in northeastern Wisconsin. University of Wisconsin – Green Bay’s Cofrin Center for Biodiversity hosts her mushroom website which now has nearly 200 species described and illustrated.

This program is free and open to the public. For more information visit dcmga.org.
