Door County Performance: The Rose Ensemble Kicks Off the February Fest!

The Peninsula Music Festival’s February Fest will open on Sunday, February 8 with the popular vocal consort, The Rose Ensemble. The 3 pm concert will be held at the Peninsula School of Art. General admission seating for this concert is just $30 per person. Tickets are available in advance and will be available at the door. This concert is sponsored by Billie Kress. The wine and cheese reception after the concert is made possible thanks to The Mission Grille, Top Shelf, Bistro at Liberty Square and Wal-Mart.

The Rose Ensemble will bring a program entitled “Cantigas from the Land of Three Faiths – A Celebration of Ancient Mediterranean Music.” Centuries of dedication and folklore in the chapels, synagogues and courts of early Italy, Spain and Portugal produced music with rhythms that reverberated across the Mediterranean. In this program spanning four centuries of vocal and instrumental music, a diverse collection of Arab-Andalusian dances, Sephardic laments, Spanish villancicos, Hebrew chants and Galician spiritual cantigas come together in a fascinating exploration of language, culture and faith from a time that is not so different from our own. The program incorporates instrumental works on period instruments throughout the vocal performance.

The Rose Ensemble was part of the 2005 Peninsula Music Festival February Fest and three of the current Rose Ensemble members have visited Door County on numerous occasions as the popular accapella group Dare To Breathe. While in Door County, The Rose Ensemble will work with the Gibraltar High School Choir on Monday to assist in preparations for the upcoming Solo and Ensemble competition.

Tickets for this concert and all the concerts in the February Fest are available and can be reserved by calling 920.854.4060. For more information visit http://www.musicfestival.com.
